Aluminum Impact Extrusion


This part was used in an automotive application as part of an airbag system. It required high volume production and quality assurance that all holes were drilled in every part to its role as a safety device that saves lives.

We were invited to propose processes early on in the project. We focused on the multiple-spindle drilling operations running the length of each side of the part.

The JOST SOLUTION optimized the process by integrating multiple spindle drill heads on special horizontal CNC machining centers.  The maximum number of drills possible attacked the part from opposite sides simultaneously and the material handling was similarly optimized to speed up production.

Water Pump and Bracket


The part was an automotive aluminum diecasting that served a dual purpose.  It was a water pump, but it also had to act as an adjustable bracket.

The Jost Solution matched-up a CNC vertical machining center to perform the required milling operations at different levels on the casting with a drilling operation.  The casting was then finished on a special machine integrating the bearing boring operation with multiple spindle tapping and O.D. necking operations.

Multiple CNC Stations


Our customer wanted to create a special machine with multiple CNC stations.  They had experience running special machines as well as CNC machines and asked for help combining the two technologies.

The Jost Solution gave them the best of both worlds.  They could machine multiple bores simultaneously and could program them like individual CNC machining centers.  The operations were boring, milling, spotfacing, drilling, tapping and threading using high pressure coolant.
