Cost is always a driver on automotive projects.  Short cycle times are also a goal, but one constant is quality.  The diameters and concentricity’s of the bores of alternator housings are tight!

The Jost Solution did not utilize CNC lathes because they would be too slow and too expensive.  We recommended using cluster boring tools with thru the tool coolant for high metal removal rates and the use of diamond tooling.  The process was fast and complete with only one operator required.  Everything was optimized with material handling during the machining cycle, roughing and finishing occurred simultaneously, and coolant fed cluster tools tripled metal removal rates compared to CNC lathes.

Drilling Holes at Odd Angles

This diecasting is an aluminum motorcycle part with a number of radial holes at odd angles.  Many of the holes are deep and frequently intersect.  Core pin taper and flash mandated secondary drilling operations.

The Jost Solution ganged up on the casting to perform all of the required drills at the same time.  The process was fast enough to run in tangent with the diecast operation.

Drill and Spotface with Tap

Agricultural Casting

Our customer needed a way to machine many features on this aluminum diecasting. 

The Jost Solution optimized the machining with a single clamping of the part and the use of a rotary index machine.  The part was milled, drilled, tapped, and precision holes reamed.  This process allowed a high rate of production while holding tight tolerances.
